In essence, the big picture of the case the stress of caring outline the Parkway Nursing care as an organization facing massive changes. Despite Parkway Nursing care winning numerous achievements for providing skilled services, there have been challenges on various sectors. For instance, the demand for growth is a significant challenge with many nurses complaining on the fact that there are too many patients to cater for on a daily basis. As a result, many nurses are stressed in handling patients to the extent, some nurses have ended up considering quitting job for instance, Carmen Frank who has worked for a year in Parkway has complains of overworking to the extent he goes with aches all over his body. Overworking being a critical issue, staffs encounter challenges lifting patients to the extent of encountering injuries. As a result, staffs end up being absent due to illness or injuries, which immediate firing. In addition, patients encounter injuries attributed by falls, slips, accidents and medication errors. With such a stressful environment, turnover rate has reduced creating a concern to the human resource management. The human resource management of Parkway outlined a need for asking employees to describe their challenges and solutions, which would enhance better performance. In this context, the management used the transaction model of coping with stress that evaluates potentials cause of stress and eventually coming up with strategies to reduce the outcomes of stress (Greenwood, 1965).

In conjunction with this, the absence case of staff has increased from 2000 to 2009. With this in mind, the bad working conditions for employees’ increases turnover rate imposing threat in lowering work performance. Failure to coming up with solutions that eradicate problems faced by employee; could result to the company collapsing. Therefore, there is a need for coming with solutions to improve work conditions along with creating a favorable working environment.
In conjunction with this, there are problems on lack of enough resources in the hospital particularly on handling patients. As outline in the case study, many stuffs experience injuries when lifting patients imposing lack of enough resources to lift patients such as stretchers. No wonder, there is a concern on both nurses and patients injuries increasing rapidly in addition, accident cases attributed by patients falling.
Common problems, caveats and weaknesses in the case study
It is essential to note that, Parkway Company wants to re-energize their mission, which would enhance change. With this in mind, the company has opts to use appreciative inquiry that entails collecting employee input, and eventually using such information to create a mission that all employees can support. It is important, there are resistance that would emerge as a result of using appreciative inquiry in that, many would end up giving suggestions that flexibly favor them. As a result, this would result to conflicts among employees particularly when some employees’ concept is sidelined. In addition, using appreciative inquiry would dilute the management in that employees would end up coming with possible solutions for development. With this in mind, employees would end up making decisions meant to be made by the management.
There are problems on Parkway Nursing care having unfavorable working conditions causing many employees to quit the job. Unfortunately, there seems to be problems in communication on the way employees are fired due to unexcused absences. In facts, many employees complain over-loaded with work to the extent of not having time with their families.
Recommendations and Managerial theories tackling these challenges
It is important to note that, managerial theories are fundamental in providing focus in understanding various challenges experienced by organizations. Additionally, managerial theories challenge organizations to solve complex challenges that hinder company development. Having discussed challenges highlighted in the case study; there are possible solutions that would be outlined from Taylor’s scientific management theory that consistently outline the need of distributing work duties to employees (Morrison, 1998). According to Morrison, Taylor outlined that, workload result to occupation stress thus, recommending the need for organization delegating duties that suits each employee. In reality, the Taylor strongest concept is breaking down a complex task into subtasks in addition, optimizing performance of subtasks. The application of Taylor theory would yield improvement in productivity.
In addition, the Henri Fayor’s administrative theory that focuses on the importance of the management doing their duties effectively to enhance favorable working environment (Waring, 1994). The management should work effectively in five principle duties that include plan and forecast, organize, co-ordinate, control and command. In essence, Parkway management team should forecast and plan through anticipating the company future thus, acting accordingly. Organizing entails the Parkway management having enough resources, materials and skilled doctors to enhance progress. In addition, the management team should coordinate with the employee to ensure that work is performed professionalism. This can be achieved through coming up with measures that encourage employees to work hard and eradicate laziness for instance, rewarding them for their good work. Finally, control entails ensuring that work is performed in accordance aligning with rules and procedures of the organization in addition; evaluating employee performance.
In conjunction with this, the team building theory would enhance change in Parkway Nursing care in that, the theory emphasizes on the benefits of building a team work that would enhance best practices and continuous improvement. According to Anne and Smith (1992), the team building theory is important in that, it highlights the need of involving employees in decision-making. When team building theory is applied in Parkway Organization, there would be progress in that the management would recognize employee challenges thus, coming up with better solutions to improve working conditions. As a result, it would motivate employees to work since their needs would have met creating a favorable working environment.
Conclusion
In facts, the paper has discussed occupation stress through highlighting the major cause and effects of occupation stress. As discussed in the paper, occupation stress would be cause by having unfavorable working conditions and practices, increase workload and extremely long working hours among others. As a result, it causes employee dissatisfaction increasing Turnover rate, absenteeism and low working performance. As discussed in the paper, Parkway Nursing care seems to have unfavorable working conditions that cause both occupation stresses. In this context, the possible solutions would be derived from Henri Fayor’s administrative theory that highlights the need for management effectively carrying out their duties to enhance a favorable working environment. Team building theory that highlights the need for building a team work that would enhance best practices and continuous improvement, and finally, Taylor’s scientific management theory that consistently outline the need of distributing work duties to employees. When this is done, it would create a favorable working environment thus, enhancing productivity along with increasing work performance. With this in mind, this paper has analyzed Parkway Nursing care in addition, examined various challenges faced by the staffs and patients.
