How to organize your argumentative essay:
1. Your first draft should be at least 2 full pages long and include a title, an introduction that grabs readers’ attention, a thesis statement, and at least 2 body paragraphs.
2. The introduction should create context for readers, explain what the controversy is, and/or briefly summarize the essay you are responding to. It should be at least ½ page long.
3. The introduction should end with a thesis statement that has a main claim, and 3 supporting reasons:
4. The first body paragraph should deal with the first supporting reason. The second body paragraph with the second supporting reason, and the third paragraph with the third supporting reason.
5. Address the counter argument. Acknowledging that there is another point of view is key to any argument. You can address the counter argument in every paragraph or in a separate paragraph located after your supporting reasons, and before your rebuttal and the conclusion.
6. Your conclusion should wrap up your essay but should not be a repetition of the introduction.
