Artificial selection is done all over the world in breeding chickens. They breed broiler chickens to be bigger, hens to lay more and larger eggs, and chickens without feathers to be easier to clean when slaughtering. This practice has advantages and disadvantages for the chickens. The advantages are that the chickens are bigger and fatter, they lay more and larger eggs and that they don’t have to be plucked when slaughtered. The disadvantages are that the chickens are getting too fat and get to where they can barely move, the chickens are laying too many eggs and this makes their bones brittle from the calcium it takes to lay the eggs. The main disadvantage is the chickens that they breed to be featherless. These chickens are hard to keep alive and they suffer the most from not having any protection over their skin.
