Discussion: National Health Infrastructure

National Health Infrastructure
In this week, we have taken the topic of public health information systems and expanded the boundaries to look at a national system. Reflect on the readings and information presented this week in Dr. Yasnoff’s PowerPoint presentation on “The Role of Information Infrastructure in Public Health Preparedness.” With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4 a response to the following:
•What are the benefits of a national health information system? Justify your response.

Psychology discussion assignment

To support your work, make sure to utilize your course and text readings. When asked, also utilize outside sources. As in all assignments, make sure to cite and provide references for your sources utilizing APA format.

Part 1

What were your thoughts on psychology before you read anything about psychology in this course? Now, based on your initial course readings have your attitudes toward or thoughts about psychology changed? Why is psychology important as a social science?

One of the common misconceptions regarding psychology is that it deals only with the analysis and treatment of persons who either have been diagnosed with mental illness or are emotionally disturbed. Explain why this assumption is partially incorrect. To support your explanation, identify two subfields of psychology and describe in detail what they study.

For a resource, Google the keywords “Divisions of the American Psychological Association” and explore any of the APA divisions. Each division represents a different field of study or sub-discipline of psychology.

Part 2

If you have to conduct research on a psychological topic, the first thing you would need to do is define your research question. Based on your research question, you would develop a hypothesis.

What is the purpose of a hypothesis? Pick a topic that you are interested in (it can be anything related to human behavior) and frame an appropriate research question. Explain why you chose this topic and how you came up with the question. Develop a hypothesis from the research question you framed. Justify and explain your hypothesis.

Surveys are used to find out information on a number of issues, from consumer preferences to employee satisfaction. You may have participated in some form of poll or survey. If someone asks you to participate in a survey or questionnaire, how would you feel about participating? Explain whether or not there is a difference between the surveys used to identify consumer preferences and those that are used in psychological research.

Lesson From Colorado Beyond Blaming Individualistic

Choose two system failures from Smetzers list of 14, and complete the following assignment in no more than six typed, double-spaced pages:

For each system failure that you choose, write a page explaining how the system failure contributed to the sentinel event of the article. What kind of precautions would be needed to avoid a repetition of this particular system failure? From which discipline might this precaution emerge (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, medicine, nursing administration, hospital administration)?
For each of the system failures that you have chosen, find the most recent piece of evidence that demonstrates either research being done in this area or new recommendations to address this particular system failure. Provide a summary of the article or initiative, and if appropriate, attach a copy of the article to your paper

Discussion: Environmental Justice

Environmental Justice
This week you have been exploring risk assessment and risk management, and what governments can do to prevent potential environmental health issues. Questions arise, however, on the equity of environmental justice. Is it fairly being provided in all situations without any group or community facing an undue amount of risk?

Select a real environmental justice issue that is relevant to your geographic area, if possible, or that is of interest to you. Find a case in which a particular ethnic or SES group has or is bearing an undue share of risk from the location of a noxious site, including an industrial facility, mining waste site, nuclear plant, municipal landfill, Superfund site, incinerator, feedlot, abandoned toxic waste site, or polluted waterway.
After researching your area of interest, please respond to the following question:
•Describe the environmental justice situation, including when it occurred or if it is current.
•Discuss who is/was facing unequal risk or exposure, including the cultural or SES correlations.
•Describe what they are/were exposed to, providing supporting information on the level of risk and using scholarly sources such as ATSDR and journal articles as necessary.
•Explain the risk-management goal, and provide suggestions/examples for communicating the risk and engaging the stakeholders.

This centre provides services to a large inner city population with clients across the lifespan.

As a relative new-comer to mental health practice you decide you need to know more about the policies, priorities and current practice issues that will affect your work.

2. Discuss the policies which will provide you with the legal and professional direction necessary to work as an RN in a community mental health centre in an inner urban context.

3. Critically discuss the mental health prioirities which exist in your capitol city and evaluate your preparedness for working with clients across the lifespan in this environment.
