In this assignment, you will find, analyze, and compare two texts written on the same fandom in different genres and write a 5 page paper demonstrating the differences and similarities between these two genres.

The possibilities are endless. Select a subject (or genres) that matters to you so you’ll have a better chance of finding something interesting to say in your analysis paper. Once you have chosen your two texts and your fandom, you should write a rhetorical analysis of the texts—looking at:
 The conventions in each genre – Is it written or spoken? What is the tone? What do you always find in similar texts?
 The contexts of each – Who is it being written for? Where? When? How? Why?
 The appeals presented – Ethos, Logos, Pathos
REMEMBER TO PRESENT EVIDENCE!
Once you have done the analysis and comparison, consider how you could generalize your findings to an idea that could control your academic analysis paper. So what? PURPOSES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
This assignment will allow you to gain a better understanding of the importance of rhetoric, genre, and context knowledge. It will allow you to understand better the ways writing differs among genres and allow you to strengthen your skills in writing in the genre of a textual analysis and academic analysis paper, leading to greater rhetorical flexibility. EVALUATION CRITERIA:
Since we have been studying the genre of the academic analysis paper, you should have a clear understanding of the important qualities of that genre. Of course, your paper should follow the conventions of an academic analysis paper, with a clear controlling idea and supporting subclaims developed in each paragraph. The structure will follow a logical progression from the controlling idea. The texts you analyzed will provide the supporting evidence for your claims, and you should remember to offer the analysis after you provide details, explaining the significance of those details.
Papers should be written in standard MLA format. Papers not written in proper MLA (with 12pt Times New Roman, 1’’ margins, paginated) will receive an automatic failing grade. All citations should follow proper MLA formatting.
Your language should be academic in tone and style, and your usage should follow formal edited English.Your goal should be to meet all of the expectations of academic rhetorical analysis papers that we have studied in class
and in our textbook.
If you chose to examine a film, transcribe the scenes you are examining.

Application: Part 1: Classical Versus Operant Conditioning

• Application: Part 1: Classical Versus Operant Conditioning
Thus far in this course you have examined the two behavioral theories of learning: classical conditioning and operant learning. Both are similar in that they explain learning as influenced by external stimuli in the environment. However, there are clear differences between the theories, and they explain behavior in different ways. When you observe a behavior, you may not know how it was learned. Many everyday behaviors can be acquired by either classical or operant conditioning. Identifying how behaviors can be acquired differently helps you distinguish between these two theories. Continue to note that different sources identify “operant learning” differently. Your text refers to it as “operant learning” while other sources may identify it as “operant conditioning.”
To prepare for this assignment:
• Review Chapter 5 in the course text, Learning and Behavior. Pay particular attention to the section titled, “Operant and Pavlovian Learning Compared.”
• Think of some behaviors that can be acquired by classical and operant learning. Select one for this assignment.
• Bring the behavior you selected to mind. Reflect on how it can be acquired via classical conditioning.
• Again, bring the behavior to mind. This time, consider how the behavior can be acquired via operant learning.
The assignment (1 page):
• Describe the behavior you selected.
• Explain the acquisition of this behavior via classical conditioning.
• Explain the acquisition of this behavior via operant learning.
Support your Application Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the Learning Resources for this course.

Application: Part II: Schedules of Reinforcement
This week, you explore reinforcement as a critical type of operant learning. Chapter 7 in your textbook explains that successful reinforcement depends on its frequency or schedule. Reinforcement does not always occur every time a behavior occurs. Usually it occurs on some occasions but not others. When this is the case, the behavior is considered to be on an intermittent schedule of reinforcement. For example, you may receive appreciation, such as “thank you” some of the times that you hold the door open for someone but not others. If you are reinforced by “thank you” often enough, you learn to continue that behavior. According to your text, the most important types of intermittent schedules are fixed ratio, variable ratio, fixed interval, and variable interval.
This week you will apply the concepts of variable ratio and fixed ratio schedules to your proposed experiment.
To prepare for this assignment:
• Review Chapter 7 in the course text, Learning and Behavior. Pay particular attention to the section on simple schedules.
• Review the Schedules of Reinforcement’ section in Psychology, Core Concepts. Be sure to focus on the details for Variable Ratio (VR) and Fixed Ratio (FR).
• Think about how different reinforcement schedules, variable ratio (VR) and fixed ratio (FR) in particular, affect acquired behavior(s).
The assignment (1 page):
• Describe how you would apply reinforcement schedules in your proposed experiment.
• Explain how VR and FR reinforcement schedules would affect the acquired behavior in your rat.
Support your Application Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the Learning Resources for this course.
Note: APA style format, No Plagiarism, must cited with some of the references provided. Thank you.
Submit your assignments (Parts I and II)

In this essay, you will be critically evaluating a classic argument.

In this essay, you will be critically evaluating a classic argument.

Choose one argument from the historic American or global works listed in the “Supplemental Readings” section of the course lessons. Decide whether this argument is successful or not. If you decide this essay is successful, discuss why. You may use the structure of the argument, the tone, and the various types of support (ethos, pathos, and logos) as proof of the argument’s success. Make sure that your thesis has an introduction that contains a hook and a thesis, body paragraphs that discuss one proof at a time (one paragraph per example), and a conclusion. If you decide that the essay is not successful, then discuss the fallacies that the argument makes. You are still required to have a strong introduction (hook and thesis), body paragraphs that discuss one fallacy at a time, and a conclusion. You may also discuss how the essay is successful with reservations. In this case, point to both the support and the fallacies you have found in the work.

This paper should be at least 700 words, but no more than 850. The paper should be formatted correctly MLA style and written in third person (do not use the words I, me, us, we, or you). The essay should also contain citations and a works cited list.
