Data Protection

“When we don’t want someone to know the company has made a mistake, we just say, ‘it’s a Data Protection issue –we can’t disclose that information’ and they usually leave it” ( Anon, Call Centre Worker )
Consider the statement above and other recent Data Protection investigations as you explain:
(a) the confidentiality actually required under the Data Protection Act 1998;
AND
(b) whether the powers of the ICO regarding misuse of the Act are of practical use.

AMERICAN LITERATUR Walt Whitman and Ernest Hemingway

Walt Whitman and Ernest Hemingway
Walt Whitman’s work "Leaves of Grass" shows that he was a poet of democracy. Whitman was interested in becoming the inclusive voice of his generation. He used free verse (as opposed to rhyme) and very expansive lines. Whitman was known as a "public" poet, intensely interested in civic issues. And yet, he was a poet of the "self", deeply concerned with the individual.
From Leaves on Grass 1900. Please read:
183. Passage to India – ATTACHED
As commentary, please also read:
Walt Whitman and the Development of Leaves of Grass
In the passage "Passage to India", Whitman’s orientation to technology and change on the global stage becomes clear. Whitman is making a powerful statement about how the individual is affected by major technical change, e.g., the Suez Canal, railroad, and the like.
Ernest Hemingway.
In many ways, Hemingway was the opposite of Whitman. For one thing, Whitman was gay, and Hemingway was totally, obsessively straight. Their styles of writing provide an equally stark contrast.
Ernest Hemingway’s novel, IN OUR TIME is written in the brutal, abrupt style that characterized his work.
Please read CHAPTER IV of the novel, The Three Day Blow
This Chapter of the book explores the relationship of two men in today’s world.
Essay topic:
How does Whitman see the individual "soul" in relation to the new world of technology? Is he optimistic or fearful? By contrast, explain the relationship the two men share in Hemingway’s novel. and how it reflects their attitudes toward the technology of the world in which they live.
Assignment Expectations:
Stay close to the text. Cite specific passages and interpret what YOU think Whitman means. Feel free to use your own experience and your own views to make sense of the poem. In particular, think of yourself as an individual, and abouT how all today’s technology affects you as an individual. Is it harder to be a unique individual today, given the technology around us? In what ways are we forced to conform? (refer to Emerson’s (Self Reliance) sense of self-reliance as a fundamental American ethic)
Feel free to use personal experiences and your own understanding of things to explain what you see. Again, we are asking how technology changes us as individuals. How we have fun, how we work has been changed by all the technology around us. Build on what you have learned so far to comment on what Hemmingway’s characters tell you about your own life.
Please write three page paper

Critique of these two studies,

Thoughout this course you will apply the unit learning to the critique of these two studies, in a step-by-step manner. The studies are reported in these articles:
Foster-Fitzpatrick, L., Ortiz, A., Sibilano, H., Marcantonio, R., & Braun, L. T. (1999). The effects of crossed leg on blood pressure measurement. Nursing Research 48(2), 105-108.
Palese, A., Skrap, M., Fachin, M., Visioli, S., & Zannini, L. (2008). The experience of patients undergoing awake craniotomy. Cancer Nursing 31(2), 166-172.
For this week’s Project, you will submit a critique of the titles, abstracts, purpose statements, problem statements, hypotheses, literature reviews, and theoretical frameworks used in these studies. Remember that one is a qualitative study, and the other is a quantitative study, so different criteria apply. In your textbook on pages 112–114 there is a guide to the critique of a quantitative study, and on pages 115–117 is a similar guide to the critique of a qualitative study. (Also note that in each chapter there are dialog boxes related to specific critique questions for that specific section of the study as well). Be sure to identify variables and the type of hypothesis if there are any, or why something may not have been included. In the literature review section, include an evaluation of the credibility of the sources used by the researcher (see page 28 of your text to review this). There will be many sources. You do not need to do each one individually but you can group them together by level of evidence of the source.
In your conclusion, summarize your overall review of these articles to this point. How well did the researchers follow the research process guidelines? Did you find anything unusual? How does it impact the overall research study if any of the elements are missing?
The finished Assignment should be a 3-4 paged critical/evaluative essay, excluding the title page and references. The viewpoint and purpose of this Assignment should be clearly established and sustained.

Discussion

What potential problems do you see arising when the private sector delivers a social service? What are the advantages of this approach to
service delivery?(Reference and author)for this question
Some major social and economic innovations in the United States have begun with small-scale experiments on the state level. For example, Wyoming permitted women’s suffrage 50 years before the 19th Amendment was ratified. Can you think of the other examples? What current state experiments might one day be taken up by the federal government? (reference or author)for this question
The fragmentation and redundancies of the U.S federal system are expensive in terms of coordination and personnel costs. Would you favor or oppose greater consolidation? Why or why not?(reference or author)for this question
Public officials at all levels of government are frequently criticized for making shortsighted decisions. Elected officials may be accused of looking forward only as far as the next election and of placing narrow, parochial interests above the general welfare. To what extent is such criticism justified? Do you see any solution?(reference or author)for this question.
Unlike several European countries, the United States does not have a full-fledged national planning body. Nonetheless, a number of institutions, such as the Council of Economic Advisors, do have important planning functions. What other institutions would you say contribute to planning at the national level?(reference or author) for this question
for each question make sure you write five or four paragraph for each question
please don’t forget discussion questions for you to answer. When replying make sure you incorporate the course materials into your response and cite your sources in APA format using both an in-text citation (Author, date) as well as a reference page listing. A great source for those unfamiliar with APA formatting is http://www.apastyle.org/learn/tutorials/basics-tutorial.aspx.

Events Management

A comparative critical evaluation of two recent (published within last five years) academic journal articles that discuss a topic relating to inter-relationships between two different sets of stakeholders in the events industry. For example:
– Producers of events and consumers of events
– Producers of events and their suppliers
– Producers of events and the resident population
Compare the two articles, giving:
* A summary of key issues raised by the authors and a discussion of how the issues in both articles compare.
* Your own critical evaluation of the main points and arguments made by the authors. Give reasons to explain the extent to which you find the authors’ arguments convincing or unconvincing.
* At least three references to other sources that offer alternative perspectives on the same topic. One of these should be a website, one a journal article, and one an academic textbook. You should reference these according to the Harvard system of referencing, both in the text of your critique and in a list of sources used, at the end of your critique.
