Part I
Identify computing / technology requirements for
(1) Your “personal life” – e.g., classes/major, hobby, etc.
OR
(2) Your future job/career
For #2: Some careers involve a significant amount of data and computing technology, feel free to narrow the scope.
This section should also describe data that would be input into a computer system and the type of output generated (via processing).
Part II
Identify the computing / technology needed for some portion (e.g., classes/major or hobby) from part I.
This part is primarily the “shopping cart”
Part III
In your own words, write how your “shopping cart” meets the needs in Part I. It’s not uncommon to redo Part II as you write this section.
Websites that can help in this assignment:
Dell and Apple provide discounts to faculty, students and staff. Here is a link to ISU’s Purchasing Computer Pricing page.
http://www.isu.edu/purchase/ComputerPricing.shtml
You may choose “personal purchases” from either Apple or Dell or choose any other vendor/manufacturer (from this site or any other of your choosing).
Paste a copy of what you place in the cart (don’t worry about formatting – I should be able to decipher).
Of course, don’t buy anything –remember, you’re just shopping around.
The following are some links that should be helpful when choosing a processor, memory, hard drive, and video and optical drives – regardless of the manufacturer (e.g., Dell, HP, etc.) – for a laptop or desktop computer. Most any manufacturer website should have a “help me choose” or similar link for each of the configurable items. You should be matching your choice on any configurable item to your needs in part I. Be sure to look at the “recommendation” links on the following sites or on any “help me choose” link.

A few requirements for Part III:
The narrative in part III is to summarize, in your own words, why the technology you chose in Part II meets the needs in Part I. For example, if you chose a desktop or laptop computer, you should address why the processor, primary storage (RAM / Memory), secondary storage (e.g., hard drive, optical drive, flash memory, etc.) and video (or other output devices) meet the needs identified in part I.
If you include apps/application software in your write-up, please state why you selected the apps/application/software as part of the purchase along with any other deciding factor (e.g., input devices, size, weight, etc.).
Submit completed assignment to MoodleISU.
Submit one MS Word document via MoodleISU that contains each of the three parts above. There should be a page break between each of the three parts. For the narrative sections (part I and part III), use complete sentences, correct grammar and please spell check! Please include a page (at the end of the document) listing your references.
Please keep the narrative in Part I and Part III to no more than 2 pages each.
