Scenario: Imagine that you are a manager in a department of a mid-sized organization. Respond to the following opportunities for management communication and intervention:
1. An employee in one of your work groups has just fired off a memo, via email, to all members of the department, complaining openly about a co-worker, and the co-worker’s personal habits in the workplace. The email names the offender, and details specific things that the offender does such as making strange noises in his cubicle, carrying on loud conversations across the tops of the cubicles, and leaving trash in his cubicle as well as in the hallway. How will you, as a manager, respond to the email, as well as to the apparently offensive employee?
2. Your management team has just received a final report generated by a departmental task force, made up of members of all of your sections. As a leadership team, you have reviewed the report and found it lacking in content, in organization of ideas, as well as in writing skill and critical thinking related to the consideration of the topic. How will you frame your response to their report so that these issues are addressed?
STEP 2 “ RESEARCH THE TOPIC
A. Your research may involve management responsibilities and employee supervision. It may also have to do with management communication. Use the library’s search capabilities to help find appropriate sources that apply to one or both of these situations.
B. As you research, and as you locate likely articles, document the sources for these materials, using the correct format, as described in the APA Guide. Keep in mind that the format may differ for books, magazines, or web-based items. You will need to cite your sources within the body of your essay, using citation style. You will also need to create a References page at the end of your document, including the full APA reference entry format for each of the sources you cited.
