Practical Investigation (2000 words) Refer to NSW BOSTES Science Stage 6 Revised Support Document, ‘Open-ended investigations’ (pp.35-43), and to the NSW BOSTES Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus, ‘Module 8.4: Water’ (pp.33-37); and particularly to Section 4: The concentration of salts in water will vary according to their solubility, and precipitation can occur when the ions of an insoluble salt are in solution together. The handout should cover the following areas: The problem to be investigated; The design of the investigation that allows valid and reliable data and information to be collected; Identify the most appropriate equipment needed to undertake the investigation; Conducting the investigation (provide details of where and the time involved and how the data will be collected and recorded); How the data will be processed; How the results of the investigation will be communicated; and How the findings and investigation plan could be evaluated.
