Process-Analysis: Baking a Cake
The first step involves the preparation session and therefore begins by reading the recipe to identify the various ingredients and utensils require for the baking process. It is good to ensure that you assemble all the identified requirements on a single location like in the kitchen workspace to lessen movements once the processes begin.
Next, pick the cooking pan and oil the interior to ensure that the cake does not stick to the sides upon baking. Measure the oil as one teaspoon and spread the same on a paper napkin; the napkin should be used to apply the contents in the pan. Ensure that this is done throughout the interior of the pan. Then, measure one or two tablespoons of flour and sprinkle it uniformly over the oil layer. Shake the pan gently in a circular manner for an even spread and tilt it upside down to get rid of extra flour in the pan.
Ensure that the cold ingredients namely margarine and milk are moved from the refrigerator at this point and place them with the other non-cold ingredients, which include water, flour, baking powder, oil and sugar. Recheck the whole list once more to ensure that all ingredients are present before the mixing section.
The fourth step will need you to heat the oven to the specified hotness as indicated on the recipe. Note that, the temperature ranges in accordance to the volume and type of cake being prepared and therefore it is very important to set the specified temperature to ensure that the cake is not overcooked or undercooked.
Next, measure in the flour and baking powder and ensure that you have mixed them thoroughly. On a separate bowl, break the eggs and add in the sugar, oil and milk. After that, use an electric mixer to ensure that all the given elements blend in together smoothly. Add the blended contents into the flour and add in water slowly while mixing lightly throughout until the required texture is acquired. As the contents tend to splash to the sides during the mixing process, ensure that at various instances you use a spoon to scrap the side mixture into the main bowl for further mixing so that uniformity maybe achieved in the overall blend.
The next step will involve the transferring process where you will empty the contents from the bowl and into the prepared pan. Ensure that the mixture fills the pan by only two-thirds in order to leave the unoccupied one-third for the rising during the cooking process. Scoop out any left mixture from the bowl using a spoon from the blending bowl into the pan. Then, lift the pan and strike it against a hard surface gently to ensure that trapped air bubbles are eliminated from the mixture.
The seventh step will involve the placement of the pan into the heated oven for preparation. It is advisable that you use the center rack and ensure that the pan is also placed centrally since this will offer a balanced form of heat circulation to the mixture form all directions.
Next, shut the oven and set the time regulator to the duration given within the recipe directions. Incase the baking duration offers a range, then get the average of the upper and lower time limits and set it as the cooking time. For instance, if the lower time were given as forty minutes and the upper time as forty-four minutes, then the average being forty-two minutes would be the preparation duration.
Upon the completion of the preparation time, push a dry toothpick or fork into the middle of the cake and pull it out gently. If the toothpick or fork is laced with few cake crumbs then the cake preparation is complete and may be pulled from the oven. However, if the surface of the toothpick and the fork appears sticky, then reset the cake back into the oven and bake it again for three or four minutes. Ensure the testing criterion is employed severally until the cake is successfully cooked.
Next, transfer the cake on a rack and allow it to cool for at least fifteen minutes. The upper cooling duration should be thirty minutes. The removal process should be achieved gently to ensure that no damage occurs. You should therefore use a blunt knife to release the cake round the pan, then cover the opening with the rack and overturn it. Tap gently on the bottom of the pan to remove the cake completely.
Lastly, decorate the cake after the cooling duration and serve according to your preferred style.
