Discussion 4: Researching and Sharing
How will you implement your solution-oriented message(s) in ways that engender positive
action? How can you use existing tools to ensure that your passion and hard work become a
reality? How will you reach your advocacy goals?
Now it is time to connect your planning and strategies with delivery methods. As you have
been learning, networking is an important component of ongoing advocacy efforts, serving to
both help advocates stay the course during intense periods of focus on short-term goals as
well as maintain energy and stamina when focusing on long-term goals. In your Module 3
Application Assignment, course resources provided you with examples of traditional
strategies and delivery methods for advocacy efforts. As you learned from your Module 4
Required Resources, social media strategies are increasingly becoming accepted and
effective advocacy tools.
This Discussion provides you with an opportunity to:
1. Do your own research on the Internet and in other resources, such as those listed in
your text and in the course, in order to find ideas, samples of plans, and nontraditional
strategies and delivery methods that might inform your plan and/or those of your
colleagues.
2. Consider social media strategies that may be beneficial to your advocacy efforts
and/or those of your colleagues.
By Day 3 of Week 7, post the following:
• Ideas, samples of plans, and nontraditional strategies and delivery methods that you
believe are worth considering and why (be sure to include your sources)
• Social media strategies that may be beneficial to advocacy efforts, and why
• Concerns, challenges, and/or excitement you are feeling about presenting and
implementing your Advocacy Action Plan
