International and Global Marketing

You are to produce a report for the Global & International Marketing team ahead of the launch of one of your organisation’s products (or product ranges) into a new foreign market (your choice). The aim of the report is to critically evaluate, and justify with relevant evidence, where the team can standardise or must adapt the product’s international marketing mix strategy.

In order to make strategic (not tactical) standardisation/adaptation proposals, you will need to conduct cultural research and critical theoretical analysis of the proposed target market’s environment focusing in particular on cultural & consumer behavioural differences.

Specific Guidance:
• Product/Company choice: You may focus on a launch into a foreign market the firm has recently entered (within the last 5 years), or choose a new foreign market not yet targeted.
• Report Structure:
– clear and concise introduction (product/country/purpose of report)
– main body (analysis of cultural research using a range of relevant cultural theory)
– recommendations of where the international marketing mix strategy can be adapted and/or standardised
– conclusion (justify why this market should/should not be considered as a suitable opportunity for market expansion)
• Report format & Presentation: use appropriate numbered subheadings throughout; page numbers; formal writing style (NOT 1st PERSON); Word-processed, double spacing; place any Appendices at the back
• Standard English – It is expected that your writing will conform to Standard English in terms of spelling, syntax and grammar

Tip to help get you started:
You need to conduct a cultural analysis of your foreign target market. Use the information gained from the web based Market Research exercise undertaken during the module to help identify differences between two international market environments.

Plagiarism – It is unethical and unacceptable to pass off someone else’s work, either published or unpublished, as your own. If you wish to refer to work other than your own, you must acknowledge it in your text.

TurnItIn – All student summative assessments submitted electronically will be subject to originality checks through the Turnitin software. Further information and guidance about Turnitin and step by step instructions on submission procedures are provided in the Student Guide to Online Submission.

Final Section of Study–What Have You Learned? (Weeks 14-15)

The goal of this final section is to reflect on your learning in a number of areas, and to write in an essay of about 500 words. Your reflection essay should be guided by the following five questions:
1.What have you learned about American history?
2.What have you learned about doing history; that is, about being an historian and dealing with documents and interpretations?
3.What insights have you gained about happiness, and about how it relates to what you have learned about people in different times and places thinking about happiness?
4.How have your own choices, including how your own educational choices are informed by your assumptions about happiness? Especially for those of you also using this study as part of Educational Planning, this is a second opportunity to ask how what you have learned might help you think about your planning your Empire State College education. For example, do any of the ideas about happiness that you have uncovered help you to think about your personal, academic, and/or professional goals? Have you come across others ways to think about happiness (or its absence) that have affected your own way of thinking about your own life? Hopefully you will have already collected some preliminary ideas about these things when you “paused to reflect” during Weeks 6-7. (It could be possible that some of your ideas from this essay are directly applicable to the writing of the Rationale Essay for your degree program.)
5.What new questions or new concerns about happiness as a topic in your life and in our lives today have emerged for you as a result of this study?

CRIME AND SCIENCE

It seems as though there has been an increase in the coverage of violence between police officers and members of the public in the last 6 months. Many of these altercations occur between members of different backgrounds, ethnicities, races, and socioeconomic statuses. Having gone through FRSC 202 and having been exposed to a little bit of the science behind how crime scene processing works, how the scientific reconstruction of crime scenes occurs, and taking a look at all the dynamics that come into play – do you have a different perspective? What has changed about how you look at these interactions? Or is everything the same? Do you feel like you have more insight? Take a few moments and reflect on the factors that contribute to some of these interactions

Demand/Supply Paper

A high level of understanding is demonstrated through the ability to teach others. In this
assignment you are to assume that you are writing for a high school student that needs
you to teach him or her how to analyze a market using the demand/supply model. Be
detailed, specific and clear in your double-spaced, word-processed, textual explanations
as you consider the market for Fitbit Fitness Trackers.
Do all the required readings for Module 1 and based on the textbook demand/supply
model of Chapter 3, answer the following in question and answer format. There is no
need to repeat the question as part of your answer a number followed by an answer will
suffice.
1. If a company training program makes the workers that produce Fitbit more
productive, would this be reflected as a change in demand or a change in supply
in the market for Fitbit, ceteris paribus? Explain. Be sure to clearly identify a
textbook variable or determinant that is causing this change. Would this change
be an increase or decrease? Explain. Would this change result in a surplus or in a
shortage in the market for Fitbit? Explain. Given this surplus or shortage, how
will a new equilibrium be established? What do you predict will happen to the
equilibrium price and the equilibrium quantity exchanged in the market for
Fitbit? Explain.
2. Illustrate your change in #1 on a graph of the market for “Fitbit.” Label your
graph fully using the “sample graph for milk” (see that PDF) as an example. Be
sure to clearly indicate the surplus or shortage distance and what happens to
equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity exchanged on your graph using
arrows. Provide a legend as well.
3. If there is a decrease in the price of Jawbone Up, a substitute good to Fitbit, would
this be reflected as a change in demand or a change in supply in the market for
Fitbit, ceteris paribus? Explain. Be sure to clearly identify a textbook variable or
determinant that is causing this change. Would this change be an increase or
decrease? Explain. Would this change result in a surplus or in a shortage in the
market for Fitbit? Explain. Given this surplus or shortage, how will a new
equilibrium be established? What do you predict will happen to the equilibrium
price and the equilibrium quantity exchanged in the market for Fitbit? Explain.
4. Illustrate your change in #3 on a graph (yes a second one) of the market for
“Fitbit.” Label your graph fully using the “sample graph for milk” (see that PDF)
as an example. Be sure to clearly indicate the surplus or shortage distance and
what happens to equilibrium price and equilibrium quantity exchanged on your
graph using arrows. Provide a legend as well.
5. If the change in #1 and the change in #3 happened in concert (at exactly the same
time), what do you predict will happen to the equilibrium price and equilibrium
quantity exchanged of Fitbit? Explain your thinking in words (text) and
illustrate on a fully labeled graph (yes a third one!). Provide a legend for your
graph as well.
