PERSUASIVE WRITING CASE

PERSUASIVE WRITING
Case Assignment
NOTE: It is suggested that students complete the Module 4 SLP before completing the Case.

Module 4 Case is a Persuasive essay in which the writer encourages the reader to give in some way to a worthy cause. The writer must first select a licensed not-for-profit organization with a web presence before identifying a specific audience and appeal(s). Please note that giving comes in all shapes and sizes and not just financial contributions.

A significant part of persuasive writing is appeal. Various appeals in your essay may be used to encourage your target audience to act. It may be helpful to imagine you’re writing a persuasive speech in which you must capture your audience’s attention, reel them in with specific details (and appeals), and then seal the deal with the close in which you leave them with a lasting impression.

As always, a well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the organization or cause. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis statement would likely be the ways in which your reader can “give.”

A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph. Perhaps each paragraph could explain in detail the specific ways to give.

This essay must include no less than SIX citations from the organization’s website. Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author’s name. Additional sources may be used for this assignment, though not required.

Article (1): Tian, L. & Macaro, E. (2012) Comparing the effect of teacher code-switching with English-only explanations on the vocabulary acquisition of Chinese university students: A Lexical Focus-on-Form study Language Teaching Research 16/3, 367-39

The aim of the assignment for this module is to enable you to critique a piece of published research on a current language teaching topic, assessing its importance and interest for the language teaching profession, and placing it within the wider context of other studies on the same topic.

This should be done in three parts:
1) Begin with a critical commentary on the article. Do the different sections in the study make sense or are there contradictions and inconsistencies? Are any sections missing or flawed? You can use the checklist in Brown (pp. 59-61) but you do not need to comment in detail on each individual section.

2) Then you must address the most important question, the ‘so what’ of the study. Is the study important or interesting for the language teaching profession, and, if so, in which ways? You can give examples here from your own experience and/or practice in any language teaching context(s) you are familiar with.

3) Extend the discussion by referring to at least three other research studies on similar or related topics that you have selected from the literature. The papers must have been published in international refereed journals in the last 10 years. They should provide a wider range of theoretical and methodological perspectives on the topic, perhaps presenting an opposing or different point of view. You should use these articles (and any other relevant sources studied in the module) to identify the key issues that researchers are concerned with in this area, and make your own critical assessment of their importance for the language teaching profession.

Case Study

Assessment Instructions
This assessment includes two parts. Compile both parts into one document for submission. Follow the instructions provided for each part.

Part 1: Ethical Issues in Psychology
Ethics are a central concept to any career in psychology, but ethical issues are sometimes unclear, and solutions to ethical dilemmas are often difficult to determine. As a professional in psychology, it is important to know how to identify an ethical issue, think through possible solutions, and find the resources necessary to guide your choices.

For this part of the assessment, choose a case study applicable to your future vision in the field from the Ethics Case Studies by Specialization document linked in the Assessment Resources. Then, address the following questions:

What do you see as the ethical issue or issues involved in the case study you reviewed? Cite the relevant elements within the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (linked in the Unit Resources and Assessment Resources) to support your analysis.
What steps would you take to attempt to resolve the issue?
How does this issue, as well as the other standards in the APA code of ethics, relate to your future career in psychology?
How do these ethical principles relate to your role as a graduate learner in psychology?
Part 2: Ethics in Research and Information Gathering
As mentioned in the introduction, another set of important ethical considerations and principles related to your role as a professional and a learner in psychology is ethics in research. To help you distinguish between scholarly research and information gathering and practice conducting ethical research, you may wish to review the following documents, linked in the Assessment Resources:

Review the Research Definition provided by the Capella Research Integrity Office.
Review Ethical Foundations in Capella’s Research Center. You do not need to review the Responsible Conduct of Research PDF.
Talking to individuals in your desired career or related to your future vision is a great way to further clarify your goals and transform your aspirations into reality. In Unit 5, you will locate a professional in psychology and ask questions relevant to your continuing career exploration. For this part of the assessment, clarify the distinction between conducting research and gathering information through an interview and reflect on the ethical principles involved by addressing the following questions:

What is the difference between conducting research in the field of psychology and conducting an informational interview?
What ethical principles are most applicable to your upcoming professional interview? What will you do to ensure you adhere to ethical principles while conducting your interview?
Submission Guidelines
Compile Parts 1 and 2 into one document to submit for this assessment. Adhere to the following requirements:

Length: Your assessment should be 4–6 typed and double-spaced pages in Times New Roman, 12-point font. (The length excludes the title page and reference list.)
References: Your references may include both scholarly literature and practitioner sources.
Written communication: Communication must be free of errors, scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations for members of the profession of psychology.
Writing style: APA expectations for scholarly writing includes the use of third-person narrative, unless it is awkward to do so. Because you are talking about yourself in this paper, you may write in the first person.
APA formatting: Your assessment must be formatted according to APA (6th edition) style and formatting and include a title page and reference list.
Note: Your instructor may also use the APA Writing Feedback Rubric to provide additional feedback on your academic writing. The writing feedback rubric does not affect your assessment, but its feedback may factor into the professional communication and writing grading criteria. Evaluate your own work using this rubric. Refer to the Learner Guide for instructions on viewing instructor feedback.

Demonstrate understanding of: Ways well-being can change and strategies to support well-being.

Read the scenario and complete all ten pages of the assessment activity that I have attached and answer each question (1A-4C). Each page should have roughly 200 + words. This would equal about 2000 words in total and I have payed for 1925 words which I hope is sufficient. Notice what the assessment requirements are to achieve merit and excellence at the front of the assessment activity and aim to achieve excellence. When the assessment activity refers to ‘ the four dimensions of hauora’ this means: the four dimensions of health which are spiritual, physical, social and mental and emotional health. I have also attached a workbook that a student would normally do before attempting the assessment, and it may be of assistance to you to flick through it quickly to familiarize yourself with the 4 ‘dimensions of hauora’. An example of the hauora model can be found on page 16 of the workbook. These are examples of the different aspects of the 4 dimensions of hauora.

any topic about international business or can related to any business companies

Research Proposal detailed description of assessment (2,500 words)
You are required to submit the proposal for your research investigation leading to the final Project. (1) Introduction (220 words)
Start your work from a provisional title explaining your research direction and a single paragraph (not too long) introducing the area/problem you intend to research, including aspects of it that are relevant to the following discussion.
(2) Key literature and theoretical background of the topic of investigation (800 words)
What is already known on your topic? What theories and concepts are relevant to the topic? Make sure you give adequate consideration to the classics in your topic area, the landmarks, and the most recent developments. What policy or business implications have been derived out of this? What gaps in knowledge remain to be addressed? What is your proposed research question?

Present the key literature in critical manner, either chronologically (tracing the development of the field over time) or comparing similarities and differences between authors and schools of thought.
(3) Methodological Choice Justifications (900 words)
In this part of the proposal you are required to provide a critical reflection on the key methodological approaches used in a chosen area of investigation and justify your own methodological choices.
In order to successfully complete part 3 you are advised to:
Find a number of good quality refereed academic articles in your field of research where authors describe and justify their methodological approaches well (not less than 5); Critically review the methods that have been used by researchers (identify and cite the articles individually) and decide which are relevant to your research and justify why they are relevant. With regards to the articles you feel are not relevant, explain why they are not relevant (If you decide none are relevant, say why they are not relevant and how you intend to proceed under the circumstances – careful, this is a hard position to defend!). Those articles which you declared ‘not relevant’ do not count towards required minimum of sources for review. When criticizing clearly name the approaches, methodologies and methods as those are known in the academic literature. Review how researchers in the field approach setting research questions; search, present and analyze data. Reflect on whether researchers are independent (of)/involved (in) their research subjects. Relate what you say to your own proposed research investigation in detail. Since this is an early stage in your research this might involve some guesswork on your part as to what your research will consist of. Please don’t worry about this because speculation will assist in your critical reflection. Nobody is going to hold you to any choices or arguments you make at this stage. The point is to test your awareness and understanding of the methodological issues relevant to your research. Be critical of your own position – a reflexive awareness of the difficulties of any approach/position is more important (in this assignment) than trying to defend any particular position. Throughout the text refer specifically to the sources you have read and the positions/arguments you form by using the Harvard referencing style.
(4) Draft of the Research Instrument (600 words)
In this part you are required to design a draft of your proposed questionnaire or interview questions / answer options based on research question of interest. This part should not be longer than 1000 words.
• If you intend to use a questionnaire, make sure you draft the key questions and option answers in a clear and readable style (at all time, think of your potential respondents);
• If you intend to use an interview, develop the questions and briefly explain what kind of answers you are hoping to receive from your potential respondents;
• If you propose to use secondary data, you need to be very specific which data sources or databases you are going to use, what kind of data you intend to find and how you are going to interrogate it.
(5) Expected Findings (100 words)

What is it that you are wishing to find as a result of your research? Evaluate strong and potentially weak points within the investigation? Will you have sufficient and good quality date to make relevant conclusions? Is there a future direction to your investigation?
