FINAL LITERATURE PROJECT ASSIGNMENT:

FINAL LITERATURE PROJECT ASSIGNMENT:
The final project should show evidence of careful and thoughtful development of the
subject with attention to appropriate depth and detail. The project should be clear,
coherent, and well organized. It should be free of errors that hinder meaning and free of
plagiarized material.
Course Project Description
For your project, you should choose a character from the novel you have read. “The Prophet of the Great Smoky Mountains” by Mary Murfree
Explain
what makes that character uniquely American. Please feel free to think outside the box.
There are characters within these novels that may not be legally or technically American
but are tremendous examples of the American spirit. This gives you a lot of opportunity to
really explore a character that interests you.
You will need to incorporate many aspects of the novel to prove your case. Be sure to look
at issues such as imagery, dialect, social and cultural influences, and point of view, among
others.
Submission Instructions:
Your essays should be in MLA Style and approximately 5-6 pages, not including the
Work(s) Cited page. As with most academic writing, this essay should be written in third
person. Please avoid both first person (I, we, our, etc.) and second person (you, your).
In the upper left-hand corner of the paper, place your name, the professor’s name, the
course name, and the due date for the assignment on consecutive lines. Double space
your information from your name onward, and don’t forget a title. All papers should be in
Times New Roman font with 12-point type with one-inch margins all the way around your
paper. All paragraph indentations should be indented five spaces (use the tab key) from
the left margin. All work is to be left justified. When quoting lines in literature, please
research the proper way to cite short stories, plays, or poems.
You should use the online APUS library to look for scholarly sources. Be careful that you
don’t create a “cut and paste” paper of information from your various sources. Your ideas
are to be new and freshly constructed. Also, take great care not to plagiarize.

Week 5 Assignment: Develop a Problem Statement and Research Questions

Week 5 Assignment: Develop a Problem Statement and Research Questions

Activity Description
Keeping in mind all you have learned about research design in previous courses, your Instructorr’s feedback on first assignment, and ethical and practical considerations about the kind of study needed to address the problem, write a problem statement and research questions based on the articles in your annotated bibliography. Follow these guidelines:
The Problem Statement should be 250-300 words that is in accord with the PPT Concept paper (located under the heading ‘Dissertation Conference Calls NEW CODES!). The problem should be related to an issue you have already identified.

Absolutely avoid one of the most common errors in problem statements (and literature reviews): reporting what previous researchers have done instead of using critically evaluated findings from previous research to demonstrate the existence of a gap in knowledge appropriate to a dissertation. Your problem statement must use sources to show what we know and don’t know, not what researchers have done and not done.

The Research Questions addresses the research problem identified in the problem statement and are in accord with the PPT Concept paper (located under the heading ‘Dissertation Conference Calls NEW CODES!).

At the bottom of your paper, paste the Problem Statement and Research Questions section from the PPT Concept paper (located under the heading ‘Dissertation Conference Calls NEW CODES!) and explain how your statement meets the criteria for these sections.

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your paper should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Review APA Form and Style.

Learning Outcomes
7.0 Develop a problem statement for a concept paper.
8.0 Compose research questions for a concept paper.

Remember that the Case in this course is an ongoing exercise, meaning that we will be taking an intensive look at one company over the course of our five modules.

Remember that the Case in this course is an ongoing exercise, meaning that we will be taking an intensive look at one company over the course of our five modules. This session, we will be conducting a strategic analysis of the Kraft Foods Group. The best preparation for doing well on the Case Assignments is to complete the Background information reading and the SLP before writing the Case.

The outcome of this Case is to complete an external analysis of the Kraft Foods Group using Porter’s Five Forces Model and a PEST analysis. Ultimately, this analysis will lead to some conclusions about opportunities and threats facing the company (the first part of the SWOT analysis).

Required Reading

Refer to the following reading list:

PEST analysis. (2009). Retrieved on November 6, 2012, from: http://www.valuebasedmanagement.net/methods_PEST_analysis.html

Porter’s Five Forces: A model for industry analysis. (2007). Retrieved on November 6, 2012, from: http://www.quickmba.com/strategy/porter.shtml

Case Assignment

An environmental analysis can be an extensive undertaking, requiring far more time and resources than we have for this course. Therefore, be sure that you do not give an inordinate amount of attention to any one factor to the exclusion of other important ones.

Keys to the Assignment
•Step One: Using the sources you identified in the SLP, collect some data to support an industry analysis of each of the Five Forces in Porter’s model.
•Step Two: Using the sources you identified in the SLP, collect some data to support an analysis of each of the four elements in the PEST analysis. When considering economic data, use the most current data you can find.
•Step Three: In a 5- to 6-page paper, write the results of your external analysis, and be sure to label each of the Five Forces as high, moderate, or low . Taken together, the Five Forces analysis and the PEST analysis should lead to conclusions about the opportunities and threats facing the Kraft Foods Group as revealed by your research. The data you report from the Five Forces and PEST analysis must be properly cited using APA style.
•Step Four: Consider the Case as a formal business report that you are developing for the Board of Directors and CEO as the Kraft Foods Group’s consultant. This is a professionaldocument. Follow the format below: ◦Executive summary: This is a synopsis of the main points, conclusions, and recommendations made in the longer report. If you would like a refresher on writing an executive summary, check this website: http://www.highendfinance.com/CommercialLoans/Docs/07-4%20ES%20Guidelines.doc
◦Introduction: State the main purpose of the paper (thesis statement), what you hope to accomplish, and how you will go about doing it.
◦Main Body: The “meat” of the paper. Emphasize analysis, not just description. Use section headingsin this paper—and all papers. For example: ◾Executive Summary
◾Introduction
◾Porter’s Five Forces ◾Threat of Entry
◾Rivalry
◾Substitutes
◾Bargaining Power of Suppliers
◾Bargaining Power of Customers

◾PEST ◾Political Environment
◾Economic Environment
◾Sociocultural Environment
◾Technological Environment

◾Overall Impressions Concerning the Company’s Environment (Opportunities and Threats)
◾Conclusion
