Bedford Mountain Parenting Program

The Bedford Mountain Parenting Program is run by human service professional, Maritza Martinez. This program provides weekly group and individual sessions that focus on various topics surrounding parenting such as discipline issues, forming healthy bonds with children, child development, and accessing community support and resources.

This program serves between 30 and 40 women who have been paroled from a correctional facility within the past six months. All participants must have at least one child under the age of 18. All participants must attend all sessions of the program. Most women complete the program in 6 months.

Women who have been incarcerated are separated from their children, often leading to a disrupted parental bond. Often, when they return to the family unit, they find that authority relationships have changed. They may be facing a lack of social support and may experience high stress levels that may negative impact their ability to parent effectively.

After reading the program description, think about potential evaluations and how they would be helpful. Use the template to answer each of the following questions.

Alliance Supermarkets has been using a point-of-sale (POS) system for some time to track its inventory. The system uses a laser scanner to read the Universal Product Code (UPC) on each item at the checkout container. The UPC is a number that uniquely identifies the product on which it appears. For example, the company could analyze the relationship between each product’s sales and weather patterns. It is even possible to analyze an individual customer’s buying habits and identify instances in which a customer may be persuaded to try a different brand of a certain product.
