Reading Archaeology

Archaeology journals are, in a sense, the face of different realms of archaeological theory and practice, or, in a sense, tribes of archaeologists.
This exercise is designed for you to take a step back and take a meta-analytical approach to three of these journals; that is, to look at the general flavor (if there is one) of each of the selected journals.
Your task is to compare and contrast Archaeologies, American Antiquity, and the Journal of Social Archaeology, in terms of how they serve the interests of the archaeological profession. Is there substantial overlap/similarity?; substantial diversity?; different themes emphasized”;
and so on. This is also an excuse to get you exploring these journals.

Reflective paper

Referring to the theory of group work, describe three behaviors you observed in the group that illustrates the forming stage of your group, how the group responded to the behavior and how you felt at the time.

description about the group: domestic violence group facilitation, it is a mandatory group for men who are perpetrators of domestic violence and is being hold in a local government building-legal aid department. There are two facilitators and three perpetrators. The two facilitators are Tobi and Lisa. Five perpetrators are Felix, Edward, Marco, Danno, and Tony. This is the first session, part of a bigger programme that also provides support to victims of abuse. This is week 1 and we just set up the first three parts of the first group session, introduction and welcome, goals, rules.

Each clients have to follow the rules, respect each other, no aggressive behavior towards other people. the facilitators did respect everyone, show positive regard for clients, attentiveness, understanding, empathy, appropriate self disclosure etc.

at forming stage every group members have disagreement towards everything, even challenges behavior when we set up the group rules in preparation session, but we make reconciliation and agreement in the end. we set up goal and aim.

We set up eight steps on what our DV perpetrators group does

Step 1: involves helping the client to acknowledge his violence and abusive behavior, challenging minimization and creating within him the motivation to stop abusing.

Step 2: to increase the client’s awareness of his build-up towards violence, teaching him to stop.

Step 3: reduce denial in all it’s forms

Step 4: to develop a man’s understanding that his violence is part of a system of abusive behavior.

Step 5: focuses on helping the man to reassess and change expectations that underlie his use of violence and abuse.

Step 6: to increase his ability to use new non-controlling behaviors.

Step 7: to work with the client to enable him to acknowledge and express vulnerable feelings.

Step 8: the final stage is to increase the man’s ability to reflect on how and what past experience contribute to his current feelings.
