asked to temporarily take the position of a high school principal, from

If I was
asked to temporarily take the position of a high school principal, from a
sociological perspective, I would want to govern the students’ behavior by the
formal norms. When I was reading the definition of both these norms I thought
to myself that I would want to choose to govern the students’ behavior with
formal norms that would have written standards of behavior and also have
specified strict punishment for those who violated the rules. This would only
keep everything in order and under control. Even though I like the definition
of informal norms better, seems to be more at ease, but with no punishment in a
school things would be out of control and there could not be any learning done
at the high school. One example of how I would use the formal norms to govern
the high school students’ behavior would be by setting metal detector in the
high schools to prevent weapons to be entered into the schools. Another example
of how I would use the formal norms would be by implementing drug searches in
high schools. Both these rules would definitely reduce crime and possibly
prevent many students to drop out of high school. I don’t believe that these
norms would differ from college students. By not allowing students to interfere
their school studies with drugs, weapons and crime I believe many more students
would actually finish high school and graduate college. I can think of many
more different ways to implement formal norms in schools but I do indeed think
that the formal norms would be a better way to govern students’ behavior rather
than with informal norms.
