For this essay, you will present an analytical evaluation of Orwell’s account of a specific cause, consequence, or characteristic of poverty. Bridge (1 paragraph): Your bridge should summarize the research materials you’re working with and present the analytical principle you will be using to evaluate Orwell’s characterization of poverty. The bridge should conclude with your thesis.
Thesis Statement: Your thesis should state your analytical evaluation of Orwell’s characterization of poverty. Is Orwell’s characterization confirmed or contradicted by your research? Do you find similarities or stark differences between the information about poverty you’ve found in your research and Orwell’s characterization?

Criteria for Success: Your essay should be 5-7 pages. One letter grade will be deducted if the essay is without proper MLA citation or without a works-cited page with three sources in addition to Down and Out. The paper should also have focused paragraphs, an arguable thesis statement, and be free of grammar errors. (Criteria for previous essays will also be applied.)
