Research: Public Opinion Polls Comparison

To Do:
Click on the highlighted link to Public Opinion Polls Comparison There you will find five sets of public opinion polls (each set contains two or three questions, the sample surveyed, who conducted the survey, the dates the surveys were conducted, and the results).

Select two (2) sets [A, B, C, D, or E] and analyze and critique the questions and results within each set. [Do NOT evaluate between sets — i.e. do NOT evaluate Set A with Set B (that would be like comparing apples and oranges), but if you choose Set A as the first of your two sets, then evaluate and compare the three questions/polls within Set A; if you then choose Set B as your second set, then evaluate and compare the two questions/polls within Set B; and so on].

Write a 4 page paper that thoroughly explains your two sets of analysis and critique.

Things you might consider in your analysis/critique (be sure to provide explanation and analysis — do not merely ‘answer’ these topics):
Wording of the questions (were the questions clear, ‘loaded’, ‘double-barreled’ etc.?)

Answer options (e.g. too many, too few, ambiguous, etc.)

Who commissioned and who conducted the survey (and why it might matter)

Who was surveyed and the sample size (and why it might matter)

The Margin of Error (MOE) for each survey [see Babbie (2013) ideas related to sampling errors on pages 83-84]

Communiction Crisis

The executive director has come to you extremely upset because, according to the morning paper, Bill Barnes, the guest speaker for the 25th anniversary banquet that will be held this Saturday night, is suspected of soliciting sex from a student in exchange for an A grade. Mr. Barnes was teacher of the year last year. He is not an employee of BYS and the alleged incident did not take place on the property of BYS. He has been a longtime supporter of BYS and has encouraged many at risk youth to take advantage of BYS activities. Additionally, Mr. Barnes has occasionally served as coach for various teams sponsored by BYS. The student alleging sexual solicitation has repeatedly been involved in trouble at the school, including cheating on tests and smoking in the bathroom.

As you know, one of the goals of the 25th anniversary celebration is to enhance BYS’s reputation in the community. The executive director wants to continue to support Mr. Barnes, but knows that the investigation will not be complete before the banquet. She needs to decide whether or not to rescind the invitation for him to speak. She has asked you to develop a paper that:

identifies the various ethical issues and points of view,
develops a final recommendation, and
includes a step-by-step communication strategy to convey this decision to two (2) key groups of BYS constituents.

Considering the core values adhered to by BYS and using the principles of values-driven public relations, ethical codes for public relations, and any applicable group’s professional ethical standards, provide complete an analysis of the issues and your recommendation. The following outline is suggested:

APA title page
Introduction – Summarize the problem (do not simply restate)
Analysis of specific organizational values and ethics standards that suggest that the invitation should be rescinded
Analysis of specific organizational values and ethical standards that suggest the invitation should be maintained
Conclusion and recommendation for action.
Your plan for how the decision should be communicated to BYS target publics. You may want to review the tactics listed in Table 9.1 on p. 264 for ideas.
References

Your Assignment should be 5–7 pages of text, plus an APA title page and a reference page, and should be double-spaced in 12-point font. Provide appropriate citations and references in APA format. Be sure to look at the grading rubric in the Syllabus to ensure that you have covered all of the expectations for the Assignment.

Your writing should be in Standard American English and be clear, specific, and error-free.

business law

In one page answer the question in the second provide 3 supporting paragraphs.
Stacey has worked for lawyer Larry for the last five years in his home office. Stacey does everything for Larry – receptionist, bookkeeper, secretary, paralegal, coffee girl, sometimes even taking his laundry to the cleaners. Stacey is smart and very good with people, and indispensible to Larry’s business. He sometimes took her to networking functions where she mixed and mingled with potential clients and talked up her boss. Since the economic downturn, some of Larry’s clients have gone out of business and Larry’s law practice has also suffered. Larry has told Stacey that if business does not pick up, he would have to reduce her work hours. Stacey had taken some online courses in accounting and in her spare time, she has been studying the books to see how she can make the numbers look better. She inflated some billings and expensed some of Larry’s personal bills through the firm accounts.

Larry and Stacey began attending more functions to meet new potential clients. Stacey finds herself drinking and hobnobbing harder than ever before, sometimes staying on at the events even after Larry has left. One raw rainy evening just before Christmas, after several drinks, Stacey found herself one of the last to leave a party at the golf club. As she was getting her coat, she found herself in the empty cloak room where Brian, one of the potential clients she was talking to during the evening told her that she looked ravishing and offered to help her with her coat. What transpired afterwards would be described as inappropriate touching and some kissing. Stacey broke loose and ran to her car. Fumbling for her keys, she did not realize that she had dropped her smartphone in the parking lot. Understandably upset, she drove away hastily and, coming around a turn too fast down the dark country road, she crashed into a guardrail and passed out. A few minutes later, Meaghan and her one year old son, Sam were driving to pick up her husband (yes, that same two-timing Brian) from the Christmas party. Coming around the same turn, Meaghan did not see Stacey’s stalled car and slammed into it. Sam was not properly secured to his car seat and was seriously injured. In all the turmoil over the past few weeks, Stacey had forgotten to renew her car insurance.

Meanwhile, Stacey’s smartphone was picked up by Brian. Feeling rebuffed by Stacey, he also posted some personal, confidential and proprietary information of Larry’s clients from the smartphone on his website.

Larry and Stacey have come to you to ask what might be their various liabilities under applicable tort law and legislation.

DESCRIPTIONS:

This assignment will use the readings and discussions as a base for an individual assignment where students will play the role of an HR professional and will develop an HR plan for a franchise owner. They will apply HR Planning knowledge to forecast demand and supply and then develop a clear plan to address the resulting labour shortage or surplus.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Dessler, Gary, Cole, Nina D. (2014). Human Resources Management in Canada, 12th Edition. Toronto: Pearson Canada.

Review chapter 5
Review the Case Incident on page 142 of the course textbook (referenced above).
INSTRUCTIONS:

Part 1

Conduct research in order to get information to address the following questions from page 142 of the course textbook. Ensure you use some of the qualitative and quantitative techniques described in the course textbook to help formulate your answers.
Using your HR planning expertise, forecast the demand of labour in the stores and the online environment over the next three years.
Assuming an annual 15 percent turnover level of in-store workers and a 30 percent turnover level of online-focussed employees, determine overall HR supply estimates over the next three years.
Additionally, provide some suggestions of activities you could engage in to determine supply details by internal vs. external candidates.
You are to gather the information and write an executive summary (i.e., formal business report) which documents the results of your research above and presents it in a logical manner for senior management of the franchise.
Your report must be concise (Maximum of 2 pages double spaced, 12 point font excluding cover page and references pages).
It must well-written, but in lay terms so your friend can fully understand your reasoning. (Your friend is a former English professor, so will be influenced by a proper essay, in APA format). A proper introduction that clearly outlines the purpose and flow of the essay, as well as a strong conclusion are important elements.
You must also provide a properly cited reference page at the end of the report to support any of your conclusions.
Remember, your objective is to provide an analysis on the labour forecast and turnover for the franchise owner, not simply to answer a series of questions. The questions are to help you focus your research. Your overall grade will reflect the strength of your analysis.
Submit your executive summary as a Word (or other compatible text editor) document through the Submit button below no later than 11:00 pm Atlantic Time on Sunday of Unit 5.

You are to complete a 10 minute presentation which documents the results of your research above and presents it in a logical manner for the franchise owner. Your presentation will provide the owner with a high level summary of the management report, rationale for action, and the recommended HR plan.
Your presentation must be concise (Maximum of 10 narrated PowerPoint slides, 12 point font excluding cover page and references pages). For instructions how to add narration to your PowerPoint, please do a simple Internet search remembering to include the version of PowerPoint you are using.

A proper introduction that clearly outlines the purpose and flow of the presentation, as well as a strong conclusion are important elements.
You must also provide appropriate academic references (minimum 5) to support your conclusions or recommendations to the owner. As an academic, your friend will be more impressed with vetted journal articles and company prospectus information than Internet sources. Avoid using Wikipedia or other online resources that do not have a strict editorial process. (NOTE: It is said that at any given time, over 80% of information on Wikipedia is true, but we do not know which 20% is not.

BUSINESS MODEL INTERROGATION & DEVELOPMENT

Pick a company of your choice (probably a public limited company, for easy access to information and verification by me) and then interrogate the business model of this company by telling us how the company makes money showing the interaction between the product market and the capital market. Tell us whether their products are ‘bought’ or ‘sold’. You can use a couple of known framework e.g. the Boston Consulting Group Matrix or Product Life Cycle approach to describe the product/service portfolio (market). Be careful to stay more in the financial and strategic side of the debate and not necessarily stray off to other functional areas like marketing or HR (not a marketing or HR essay). Whenever possible and you talk about product portfolios, talk about their relative profitability and that is how it may differ from a marketing or HR essay. Also, tell us what internal structures or architecture needs changing or revising to give it a needed boost. You can tell us what could go wrong with their current business model in the light of other competitions and new product developments from rivals and how your chosen company should respond. As additional guide, always think in terms of how your critique affects the bottom line (whether from revenue or cost side).

Further Guidelines:

?A background to the company’s current operations and architecture would be very useful.
?You may evaluate the company’s current business model (strategy operating and financial architecture) and whether it should be changed or modified.
?Evaluate how the company’s business strategy affects its organisational structure.
?Is the current organisational structure right for the business in the light of their model and the changes you may propose?
?Has any technological changes disrupted their business model and operating architecture (or would it impact on their model if there were such a technology)?
?Think about avenues to reduce their cost and/or improve quality.
?Analyse product market conditions and strategies
?Analyse capital market conditions and strategies
?Analyse internal organisation architecture systems

2.Explain your reasoning for choosing the design.

3.Discuss at least two practical or ethical constraints in your evaluation.

4.Discuss at least two threats to validity and how you could address these in your evaluation design.
