LITERATURE REVIEW

LITERATURE REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS

Write a 10¬–12-page traditional literature review on the topic you have been researching throughout this course. You should incorporate a minimum of 10 articles, including the ones used for the Topical Reference List and both the quantitative and qualitative articles that you reviewed. This review should be a focused synthesis of findings in the literature. Thus, you should organize your discussion around themes that emerged in your review of the literature, rather than simply summarizing study after study.

Include the following elements in your review:

1. Title page with a running head
2. Abstract and keywords
3. Body
• Introduction
• Discussion of key terms
• Review of the literature organized by themes
• Conclusion/Summary
• Reference list

Format your Literature Review in correct APA style. As you complete this assignment, please consult Chapters 3–5 of your textbook, specifically reviewing the sample literature review on pages 63–73. Also, see the grading rubric in Assignment Instructions for the specific grading criteria.

Japanese Animation vs. American Cartoons

Write a four page paper comparing and contrasting two animations. The subject animations can be feature films, shorts, television shows, web, or game intros. Try to think of a subject in animation that interests you, and then find animations that you can use to make a point about that subject (the influence of Anime, stop-motion vs. 3D, sexism in mainstream animation, etc.).
The main thing to keep in mind is that you want to choose 2 pieces that have a common thread (are they two films about friendship or two game intros ?) when choosing a topic. Once you establish a common thread, it is easier to think about what is different (mood, central theme, intention of the piece, cultural differences if the films are from different countries) and talk about what aspects of animation the creators chose to achieve the end results.
The paper should address the similarities and differences between the two animations. What do you feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the two in relation to each other? What do they have in common, and do they share influences? Cite examples from the animations to support your positions. When discussing tv shows, I generally encourage people to pick one specific episode of each show (a musical episode of the Simpson vs a musical episode of Family Guy. This doesn’t have to be a dry academic paper, you can express your own opinions about the films, but they need to be explained, not just stated as “I liked it” or “this one was funnier”. Discuss what you liked or what was funny—was it more relatable or more completely outlandish ? What kind of humor was used ? Parody ? Political satire ? Dark Humor ?
Your paper will be graded on the clarity, cohesiveness and logic of your arguments.

Freedom

How would hard determinists, who completely deny the existence of free will, characterize extreme acts of wrongdoing most of us would readily condemn? Think of the cruel acts of tyrants (e.g., Hitler’s choices to exterminate six million Jews) or the chilling demoniac personalities of serial killers (Jeffrey Dahmer’s rape, murder, dismemberment and cannibalism) or senseless acts of violence (the recent case of the Batman movie massacre). Would these infamous individuals (and other examples you may want to bring up) be morally responsible for their acts according to Hospers and Skinner? Do you agree with their position? Can the environmental factors of criminals (which do not always fit nicely into a certain mold) completely explain their acts? If we somehow isolated a distinct pattern, whether in environmental or neurological factors, would it necessarily mean their acts of wrongdoing were not free? Articulate your thoughts on these questions, relating them to some of the philosophers or their arguments discussed in this chapter (6).

this question needs to be answer from chapter 6 (freedom) of this book, BOOK ONLY SOURCE USING, THIS IS THE NAME OF THE BOOK
( Introducing Philosophy: (Oxford University Press, USA)(2011) by Robert C. Solomon, Kathleen M Higgins, and Clancy Martin.

Tenth Edition. ISBN: 0199764867.

Konza Prairie Data Analysis

Konza Prairie Data Analysis
It requires you to create a few graphs in Excel (or a similar program) and interpret the data.
If you are not familiar with making charts in Excel, there are many tutorials online that you may find helpful. Google ‘how to make a scatterplot in Excel’ or ‘how to make a trendline in Excel’. A brief written description is also provided below.
Step 1: Download the excel file form cite that contains the Konza Prairie Data. The worksheet contains data for individual years. Below the data are important notes that describe the data found in each column. For instance, in class we looked at a graph of columns D and E (productivity of annual & 20-year burn treatments) versus column B (total precipitation). The notes tell us that columns D and E contained data averaged across vegetation type and topography. This means that this data does not distinguish between grasses and forbs or upland and lowland sites.
Step 2: Create scatterplots that allow you to answer the following questions.
? How does topography (upland versus lowland) affect the relationship between precipitation and productivity? (Make one plot of column B versus column F and a second plot of column B versus column G, in both cases column B should be on the x-axis.)
? Does the relationship between precipitation and productivity hold for all vegetation types? (Make one plot of column B versus column H and a second plot of column B versus column I, in both cases column B should be on the x-axis.)
Instructions for Excel 2010: Use the mouse to select/highlight column B cells, including the header cell ‘total precipitation’. Next, while holding the Control key, select/highlight columns F or G including the header cells. Once you have selected the data you want to plot you can release the mouse button and the control key but DO NOT CLICK in another cell. At the top of the page click on the tab Insert ? Charts ? Scatter ? Scatter with only markers. A chart will appear in your open worksheet. You can move this chart by dragging and dropping if it covers your data. The next step is to add axis labels. With the chart selected, you should see new tabs for Chart Tools. Select the ‘layout’ tab. There will be a button for adding axis titles. After you have labeled the x- and y-axes you are ready to create a trendline. Select your data by clicking on one of the data points on the chart. In the Chart Tools, Layout tab there is a button called Trendline. Select ‘More trendline options’ at the bottom. A new window should open. You want a linear trend. Also check the box “display R-squared value on chart”.
Follow the same procedure for all plots to investigate the relationship, if any, between productivity and precipitation.
The following page contains questions related to the scatterplots you have created. Please copy and paste your excel charts into this document and answer the questions. When submitting your assignment, please delete this page of instructions.

Step 3: Report
Paste copies of your topography scatterplots here.
1) In which topographic position is plant productivity most responsive to precipitation? How do you know?
2) Does the slope of the line differ by position?
3) Which position is more productive? Why do you think this is?

Paste copies of your vegetation type scatterplots here.
4) How do the vegetation types differ in their response to precipitation on upland sites?
5) What does this difference signify with respect to reliance on water?
6) What fraction of total productivity do forbs contribute? Why is it so low? (Think back to the data from the in-class exercise)
