Shelby Steele and the tradition of American Conservative Thought

According to Charles Dunn and David Woodward (The Conservative Tradition in America), Rowman & Littlefield, 2003), at the core of conservative beliefs are the following: respect for the established order (including institutions, moral teachings, property rights etc); primacy of leadership by a few; primacy of family and community (hence limited involvement of government in social issues); preference for gradual change, for experience over reason (ideology), and for liberty over equality. The authors divide their discussion of the development of American Conservatism into three eras, namely, Early, Middle, and Modern.

Critical thinking essay is based on the book called "A Dream deferred"- The second betrayal of black freedom in America By Shelby Steele. AND TWO OTHER WORKS: The first is (1) "The competing conservative traditions in America" By, Paul Johnson (Only chapter 6) The second (2) "The Historical Development of American Conservatism" By: George H. Nash (Chapter 5).
It consists of two parts.
Part A (Above mentioned authors Nash & Johnson): Overview of American Conservatism. For each period covered by the authors, identify and briefly discuss (using 2-3 criteria above) examples (of practices, events, perspectives) that illustrate the continuity of conservatism as a major theme in American political culture.

Part B Based on the book "A Dream Deferred"-The second betrayal of Black freedom in America By, Shelby Steele. This section is the mind of the Black Conservative. Show how these core beliefs are reflected in Shelby Steele’s analysis of the Black struggle for equality. Specifically you must discuss evidence to demonstrate the presence of some core conservative belief’s in Steele’s thinking regarding:
i) His analysis of the Black parliament
ii) His critique of government interventions such as Affirmative Action
iii) His policy preferences of prescriptions.

Based on these three resources part A & B should be addressed and direct quotes must be used to back up statements. Also citation must take place with page references.

AAP – XUMUC Campus

AAP-11 Submittal
In the beginning, I said that your AAP comprise of two parts: One is group project and the other is writing a
paper or RFP. In group you have done most of the work and in this submittal you need to add implementation
plan as described below and rearranged the format as per guide line below (Also, see the text page 25).
In this part it is your choice how you want to work in a group or individually as you would be grading your
group members. Even, you decide, you want to work individually; still you can share your work.
AAP-II: (15% of the grade. It is graded by group members): For this section you will write a paper in the form
of RFP which include:
Executive Summary
Business goals for the project
Scope of the project
Information on existing network
Information on new applications
Technical requirements, including scalability, availability, network performance, security,
manageability, usability, adaptability, and affordability
Design solutions
Logical Diagram
Warranty requirements for products
Environmental or architectural constraints
Training and support requirements
Preliminary schedule with milestones and deliverables
Legal contractual terms and conditions
Estimated Cost
IP address Scheme
Your paper should include responses to all of customer’s RFP and should include logical and physical
component pf the design, information on technologies used in design solution, and proposal to implementing
the design. The following sections describe the format of the paper:
A: Executive Summary (ES)
The executive summary briefly states and emphasizes the major points of the customer’s requirements. The ES
should be no more than one page and should be directed at key decision maker of the project who will decide
whether to accept your design. The ES can have minimum technical information but NO technical details. The
technical information should be summarized and organized in order of the customer’s highest-priority
objectives for the design project. The ES should be organized customer top requirements.
B: Project Goal
This section should state the primary goal for the network design. The goal should be business oriented and
related to an overall objective that organization has to become more successful in core business. Your objective
is to make it clear to decision maker that you understand the primary purpose and importance of the network
design project. Below is an example of project goal was written for an actual design.
“The goal of this project is to develop a wide area network (WAN) that will support new high bandwidth and
low-delay multimedia applications. The new applications are key to the successful implementation of new
.

training programs for the sales force. The newWAN facilitate of increasing sales in the USAby 50% in the
next fiscal year.”
C: Project Scope:
The project scope section provides information on extent of the project, including a summary of departments,
field offices networks that will be affected by the project. The project scope section specifies whether the
project is new network or modifications to an existing network. It indicates whether the design is for a single
network segment, a set of LANs, a building or campus network, or a set of WAN or remote access network,
VoIP, or enhancing security. (Note: Here you can use it your group’s scope of work as it is or change it the way
you want).
D: Design Requirements:
In this section, you provide major business and technical requirements of the network in priority order. In
business goal explain the role network design will play in helping an organization provide better products and
services.
In Technical requirement section explain in general term how propose technical improvement is better than or
meet the customer requirement.
Network Application: This section lists and characterizes the new and existing network applications.
E: Current State of the Network:
This section briefly describes the structure and performance of the network. It should include a high-level
network map that identifies the location of connecting devices, server farm, storage systems, and network
segment
F: Design Solution:
This section includes:
Logical Network topology which include high level one or more drawings to illustrate logical
architecture of the proposed network
Aplan of addressing network segments and devices
Aplan of naming network devices which include routers, workstations, servers, and network segment.
Alist of routing, switching protocols that have been selected to implement design
Recommended Voice over IP solution, and mechanism to implement them
Recommended security mechanisms and products, including a summary of security policies.
Recommended network management processes and products
G: Implementation Plan:
The implementation plan includes your recommendations for deploying the network design. The design
implementation description should be detailed as possible. Implementation of a network design consists of
several phases (buy and install hardware, configure system, test system and so forth). Each phase consists of
several steps, and documentation for each step should contain the following:
Aproject schedule
Plans with vendors or service providers for installation of links, equipment or services
Plan or recommendations for outsourcing the implementation or management of the network
Aplan for communicating the design to end users, network administrators, and management
Atraining plan for network administrators and end users
Aplan for measuring the effectiveness of the design after it has been implemented

Alist of known risks that could delay the project
Afallback plan if the network implementation fails
Apan for evolving the network design as new application requirements goals arise
Below are configuration sample and project schedule templates

Goebel et.al. v. Frank Clothiers

Your task is to carefully review the case and thoroughly answer the following three questions:

1. Is there sufficient evidence of disparate impact against African Americans with

to the selection procedure to shift the burden of proof to Frank Clothiers? Explain thoroughly. (40 points)

2. Frank Clothiers effectively asserts a “bottom-line” defense, stating that since more

African Americans were hired than any other group, this clearly suggests that there is no evidence of disparate impact against African Americans. Would this defense likely enable Frank Clothiers to prevail? Explain citing at least one major U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding a “bottom-line” defense. (40 points)

3. If disparate impact is evident, what must Frank Clothiers do in order to prevail?

Given the information presented on the job description for the assistant manager position, is continued use of the Wonderlic Personnel Test for selection feasible? Explain. (20 points)

Your manuscript will be assessed based upon content (accuracy and thoroughness of the responses) and writing proficiency. Your presentation should be reflective of a professional. This means it must be typed (word processed and printed neatly) and well written. Appropriate citation for materials borrowed from the literature (including materials borrowed from your text) is required (footnotes or endnotes and a references page). Two scores will be assigned to your case analysis, one for content (70%) and one for writing quality (30%).

How long should your manuscript be? I would estimate about five pages, but admittedly, this is just a guess. However, effective content is more important than the number of pages.

answer the three question clearly and make it accurate

Products and brands come loaded with meanings which we use to define ourselves

Using relevant theory and examples, critically discuss the statement above making particular reference to the ways in which products and brands have become part of consumer’s lives.

The focus should be on the following – values and meanings ; how brands/products help to define the self and how these brands/products have become interwoven into the fabric of everyday life.Buyer Behaviour – 2013 Coursework Briefing Think Carefully about the following:

*What do brands/products mean?

* The readings I am sending you all via Moodle are to HELP you with this assignment. Seminar readings! Use them as a starting point (seek out additional references from those papers)

* Where does meaning come from (remember P.E.S.C) – how do consumers understand and perceive •Minimum of 15 ACADEMIC references.

What does a ‘good’ piece of work look like: “One influential account of globalisation, the McDonaldisation theory (Ritzer, 1996: 76; Clark and Mathur, 2003: 146), argues that cultural influence flows primarily form the U.S to the rest of the world. A conclusion from this would be that the emergent global culture is simply the exportation of U.S culture to the rest of the world; however, this is a rather simplistic view. Zwingle (1999: 45) pertinently states that goods move, people move, ideas move and cultures change; so it could be seen that due to these variables of products, people and ideas (or, rather ideological thinking which could be used to describe the West) all have knock on effects for a nations culture.”

What does a ‘poor’ piece of work look like: “Furthermore, the right planning also includes taking into consideration the glocalisation factor. This is because there are no boundaries for tourists and as long as they are aware of the fact. This is the reason why international branding is essential to be utilised, in order to be able to create a dominant brand name and get the interest of the consumers.”Buyer Behaviour – 2013 Where to look for resources

Create a list of milestones and tasks that must be completed in order to complete the prototype.

Pretend that you are a project manager for the University of Houston in charge of building a new prototype dorm room. This new dorm room prototype will be completely off-the-grid, i.e. will produce its own power, recycle its own waste, and collect its own water. A single stand-alone room will be built somewhere on campus to determine the concept’s feasibility.

Create a list of milestones and tasks that must be completed in order to complete the prototype. Keep the following in mind: you must find a suitable spot, research the best methods and materials, build the structure, and test it.

Then make the list of milestones and tasks into a Gantt chart that graphically illustrates how long each part will take.

Introduce your schedule with a paragraph introducing the project. Remember to introduce the Gantt chart by name before it appears. List the milestones and tasks in bulleted form before the Gantt chart, but remember that all lists should be introduced by sentences, as well.

Keep in mind that a milestone is composed of tasks. A milestone is a moment in time when a large portion of a project can be demonstrated as complete. Demonstrating that a robot’s vision system works is a type of milestone. Tasks are smaller things that must be completed in order to fulfill the milestone.

Your grade for the schedule will be based on the following:
• Evidence of careful thought concerning the project scope
• Clear milestones and tasks that will lead to completing the project
• A paragraph that introduces the project and figure by name
• A clear Gantt chart (figure) that is named correctly and is easy to read

civil war

Explain the shift toward militancy in the civil rights movement in the late 1960s.

Upload your one paragraph journal entry through the link at the bottom of the page.

. How the Journal is Graded .
The journal is worth up to 5 points and will use a 1/0 grading system. In a 1/0 system, you will either get full or no credit for an item. I expect college level work, therefore any subpar efforts will receive a 0 for that item. The following items are graded in journal entries:

——————————————————————————–

THESIS – Do you have a well thought out and clear thesis?

——————————————————————————–

EVIDENCE – You must have solid evidence for each point you raise in the thesis. Evidence is not simply a statement, there must be an explanation of how that evidence supports the thesis statement.

Example: If you were writing a paragraph on the causes of the Cold War, you might use the Baruch Plan as an example. Simply writing “the Baruch Plan was a cause of the Cold War” in your paragraph would not be enough to earn a point. However, the following sentences would earn a point:

“One cause of the Cold War was the failure of the United States and the Soviet Union to agree upon a plan for nuclear disarmament after World War II. The Baruch Plan, presented by the US, would maintain the American atomic weapon advantage for the foreseeable future. This played into Stalin’s suspicions of the Americans’ true motivations toward the USSR.”

You should have a minimum of three pieces of evidence in support of your thesis (each point of the thesis needs at least one piece of evidence in support). There are three possible points here, one for each piece of evidence.

——————————————————————————–

MECHANICS: CLARITY, LOGIC, GRAMMAR AND SPELLING

Is your argument clear and does it make sense? Is it historically accurate? Does your evidence prove your point? Is the journal entry up to college standards for grammar and spelling?
